Bond management is now faster, more transparent, and fully digital for landlords, property managers and tenants.
From today, all bond tasks are available online through Bond Hub and connected property management software. Paper bond forms are no longer accepted.
Non-digital options are available only for specific situations, such as when a tenant needs to request a refund because their landlord has not completed the process.
What’s now available
The following bond tasks are now fully online:
- bond lodgements and top-ups
- bond refunds
- changes of tenant or landlord.
Tenants can also now opt in to receive text (SMS) updates, or email or post, making it easier to stay informed about what’s happening with their bond.
If you use property management software, check with your software provider about when the change of tenant and change of landlord transactions will be available. Until your software is updated, you can complete these transactions in Bond Hub.
What this means
Moving bond management online means:
- paper forms are no longer accepted — all bond transactions must be done through Bond Hub or connected property management software
- faster processing and fewer delays
- clearer, real-time updates on bond progress
- a simpler, more transparent experience for everyone involved.
Tenants can respond to bond requests online, see their bond record and update their contact details, while landlords and property managers can submit and track bond requests digitally.
What tenants need to do
- Make sure your email address and/or mobile number, are up to date.
- Keep your tenant number in a safe place. Don’t share it with anyone else.
- Respond promptly to bond requests online – they’ll come from bonds@tenancy.govt.nz or 2910 if it’s a text message. For any queries, we recommend checking our website first for guidance. If you can’t find what you need, please contact us.
- Consider opting in to receive text (SMS) updates – you can do this online.
What landlords and property managers need to do
- Use Bond Hub or connected property management software for all bond tasks.
- Consider how a fully digital process may change how you communicate with tenants about bond refunds and tenant changes.
- Share information about these changes with your tenants.
