Tenants and landlords must let Tenancy Services know if there is a change to bond information.
Bond information changes include when:
- a tenant changes
- a landlord changes
- a tenant needs to update their contact details.
If you are a tenant and your contact details change, you can either:
- update your details in Bond Hub, or
- email us with the updated contact information.
If there is a change of landlord, change of tenant or your contact details change, you must let us know within 10 working days.
You can update the changes using Bond Hub – you do not to contact us separately if you make the change in Bond Hub.
Alternatively, you can email us your updated details bonds@tenancy.govt.nz.
In either case, you must also inform the other party of any changes.
What to do when a tenant changes
For the incoming (new) tenant
We need to know when an incoming tenant moves in if:
- they are on the tenancy agreement, and
- they pay a bond.
For the outgoing (leaving) tenant
We need to know when an outgoing tenant moves out if:
- they paid a bond, and
- at least 1 of the tenants on the tenancy are continuing with the tenancy.
Landlords can submit change of tenant requests in Bond Hub:

If all the tenants move out
If all tenants move out, the landlord will need to lodge a bond refund request in Bond Hub.
Landlord or property manager changes
We need to know if there is a change of landlord or property manager. The bond information must be updated whether the change is permanent or temporary.
