A ‘light-touch’ regulatory regime for Residential Property Managers is being established by the Government to create better regulation of property managers within New Zealand’s rental market.

These changes will support a functional rental market, ensure fairer outcomes and improve accountability for the sector.

Further work will be undertaken to turn these proposals into law, subject to government legislative priorities. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

These changes are informed by feedback received from the sector, industry and tenant advocates. The aim of these changes is to promote and protect the interests of property owners and tenants and increase confidence in the delivery of residential property management services.
