Only a small number of properties are affected. If your property already complies with the healthy home standards, you do not need to do anything.

The changes:

• reinstate a partial exemption for ceiling insulation from the Smoke Alarm and Insulation Regulations 2016. Homes with limited ceiling space may still meet the standard if they have extra insulation in other parts of the home, such as the walls, floors and windows to compensate.
• confirm that the healthy homes standards take priority over specified overlapping or conflicting requirements in the Housing Improvement Regulations 1947, to provide clarity about heating, ventilation and drainage requirements in rental properties.
