Talofa lava, this week is Samoan Language Week.
This year Tenancy Services is using the opportunity to raise awareness amongst Pacific communities about tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities.
Samoan is the third most widely-spoken language in New Zealand, with almost 90,000 speakers across the country.
We have a range of resources available to Samoan speakers, including our six short videos about renting. Each video outlines a scenario that is common for New Zealand tenants and landlords and offers good advice and tips for a successful renting relationship.
You can find the videos on this website alongside Samoan versions of the following:
- Renting and You (Nofo mautotogi ma oe) booklet
- Live in a boarding house? Know your rights! (O e nofo mautotogi i se boarding house? Ia e silafia au aiātatau!) pocket card
- Tenants know your rights! (Tagata Mautotogi Ia e silafia au aiātatau!) pocket card
We are also working on translating more of our resources into Samoan and these will be available on our website soon.
Samoan Radio Campaign
This week we are running radio advertisements and interviews about tenancy issues on Radio 531pi, NIU FM, Radio Samoa, Samoa Capital Radio, 1593 AM, Planet FM, Access Radio and Plains FM.
Our staff have been interviewed live on air to raise awareness among Pacific peoples of their rights and responsibilities and how to access information and help from Tenancy Services and our 0800 Tenancy help line.Back to News and events
