Chief Advisor – Sector Policy
The Department of Building and Housing is currently looking for an experienced Chief Advisor, to work within our Policy Branch, to lead a strategic policy programme that will help transform a sector.
The Policy Branch provides advice to Minsters on building and housing issues, develops and consults on legislative reform, and develops the necessary regulation to give effect to those reforms.
As a Chief Advisor you will be accountable for providing the Department with high-level strategic policy advice. This involves the identification of critical issues for the building and housing sector and the development of smart, pragmatic policy solutions. You will build strong relationships within the Department and across the sector to inform your policy development.
You will also play a role in leadership within the Department, as a member of the Policy Branch Leadership team, and be expected to model effective leadership behaviours for others.
To succeed in this role you will need to have:
- A relevant Honours, Masters or Doctorate degree in economics, social science, public policy or a building or property related discipline
- Demonstrated previous success in delivering high-quality strategic policy advice including the ability to accurately identify critical issues, their underlying causes and pragmatic solutions
- Strong familiarity with government policy, processes and procedures, coupled with an understanding of public management principles and a demonstrated ability to place particular sector policy within the context of government wide policy
- Excellent relationship management and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on the use of skilful dialogue, active listening and enquiry.
